Tashkent to Samarkand: train or private transfer?
For a Tashkent–Samarkand journey, do not start with the ticket price or car quote alone. Your starting point, final destination, luggage and stops along the way all matter. Check whether the train timetable works for you, then compare a separately arranged car against your destination and stopping needs.

The official railway ticket service lets you search by route and date. Select Tashkent and Samarkand and check the day you need. Note the stations, arrival time and ticket conditions shown in the results.
This guide does not provide a specific train time, journey duration or fare. Those may depend on your travel date. If the search results change, adjust the rest of your plans too; do not treat an old screenshot as evidence of current availability.
Account for the whole door-to-door journey
For the train option, include getting from your hotel to the station, preparing for departure and travelling from the station in Samarkand to your destination. For the car option, establish the pickup address, agreed departure time and drop-off point. You can then assess both offers using the same starting and finishing points.
Compare prices in the same way. On one side, list tickets for everyone in your group, getting to the station and reaching your final destination. On the other, write down the agreed total for the car. There is no universal answer in advance about which option will be cheaper.
Agree on any stops before travelling
A separately arranged car may allow you to agree on stops along the way, but that does not mean every stop is included in the price. Mention meals, photo stops or visits to another destination in your request from the start.
Agree in writing with the provider on the location, approximate duration and price implications of each stop. If you do not need stops, say so too. This helps distinguish a straightforward one-way journey from a full-day car service. Do not expect the driver to wait all day without separate confirmation.
Keep your first day in Samarkand manageable
Even if you want to see Registan, Shah-i-Zinda and Gur Emir, you do not have to fit them all into your arrival day. We recommend sorting out your luggage and accommodation first, then choosing sightseeing to suit the time left. These places are listed on Samarkand's official tourism page.
For a same-day return trip, check the return transport in advance as well. A convenient outward journey is not enough on its own: the return pickup point, contact arrangements, possible delays and time to rest also belong in the overall plan. Choosing one clear aim is often easier to manage than a very packed itinerary.
Before you travel
- Check your date and stations in the official search.
- Assess both options with the same pickup and drop-off points.
- Add up the group's tickets and local transport costs.
- Agree in writing on stops, luggage and vehicle capacity.
- Confirm the return arrangements for a same-day trip.
Questions and answers
Which option is always faster?
There is no general guarantee. Compare the timetable for your travel day and every part of the door-to-door journey.
Can I compare one car quote with one person's train ticket?
For a group, calculate the total cost for every passenger. Also clarify exactly what the amount in the car quote covers.
Are stops along the way automatically included in a transfer?
No. Agree on the location, time and any additional charge in advance. Do not confuse a straightforward journey with a full-day car service.
